Automatic fire detection (AFD) and alarm systems are designed to protect the lives of occupants, property or both in the event of a fire. Which is why all alarms must be tested once every six months by a competent person (A fire alarm engineer up to the British Standard B2 5839-1). The components of an AFD system include:
  • Trigger devices/sensors (Call points and detectors)
  • Control and indicating equipment associated power supplies
  • Alarm devices
  • Visual Alarm devices
All of which are checked/ tested in the six monthly test to ensure that everything is up to the British Standard (BS 5839-1 Fire detection and alarm systems for buildings) AFDs are designed and tested to:
  • Reduce occurrences of hazards
  • Assist early warning
  • Aid in escape of the premises
  • Prevent fire growth
