Emergency Lighting

Emergency light testing involves powering down a location, ensuring all lights turn on in the event of an emergency (i.e Fire) and checking that power and backup power is able to get to the systems.

In any emergency where it is necessary to evacuate a building, such as a fire incident, it is vital that all escape routes can be safely followed and exits found which lead to an ultimate place of safety.

Emergency lighting is used for use when the supply to the normal lights fail. (BS EN 1838:1999 Lighting applications. Emergency lighting)

Which is why it is important to get them checked monthly. Once every six months a emergency light technician needs to do an hour long power down check to ensure that all the lights still work in the event of an emergency.

Emergency lighting should comply with the British standard BS 5266-1:2011

A properly maintained emergency light system will ensure that relevant areas stay lit to an appropriate standard, with sufficient time for all to escape and other measures safely taken.
